I was attracted to Vision Express because I see the company as being one of the top providers of eye care on the High Street. It's really exciting to see how they are growing too and the opportunities that growth can bring. I wanted to be part of that success and I was so pleased when I secured a position.
As you probably know recruiting for Pre-reg students is done well in advance so you need to make sure that you don't miss out. Make sure you pop along to the presentation organised for you by Vision Express. I found the presentation at my university very informative, I had done some research prior to the presentation but left the room having all my concerns and questions fully answered. They even organised drinks and pizzas for us!
When I joined I was a bit nervous as I didn't know what to expect but the week long induction really helped. I got to meet my fellow Pre-reg students and meet various people including assessors and people from Support Office (who were there to do just that - support me). The course was very well organised and at the end of the week I knew exactly what was expected of me during my Pre-reg placement. I also attended a revision course recently which was a refresher for our assessments - we did practical work and some theory so it was a really good mix. The assessors were fantastic and really knew their stuff - they filled me with the confidence that if I put in the hard work needed I could get through all my assessments.
My supervisor is really good and always there for me. But it's not just my supervisor who supports me - the rest of the team are really supportive too. I'm kept busy in store so the days go by really quickly. This is all new to me and I'm on a massive learning curve.
I wouldn't hesitate in recommending Vision Express to anyone thinking of applying for a Pre-reg placement. I feel I made the right decision in joining them as the programme and support offered has been the best.
I see my long term future with Vision Express and hope to have my own store in the next 5 years. I really want to stay with the company because they have given me so much support and I know with their help and my determination I can pass my Pre-reg placement with flying colours.

I applied to Vision Express for a Pre-reg placement because they have a good reputation. The level of service they provide to customers is outstanding and they have a good selection of quality products. I also heard along the grape vine that the support students received was brilliant.
I have to say that I was really impressed when I joined. My supervisor was really good and the store team were great too - they made sure I had the right kind of appointments booked into my day to make sure I saw the variety of patients needed to pass my assessments.
I was delighted when I passed first time! My Pre-reg year was probably one of the hardest years of my life but it was worth it. When I found out I had passed I was so relieved and there was no doubt that Vision Express was the company for me so I was really over the moon when I was offered a resident position in the location that was right for me. I feel that my Pre-reg year enabled me to build up a great network. The induction and revision courses were a great opportunity to get to know my fellow Pre-reg students along with meeting assessors and support office staff.
I can't tell you how good it feels to now be a fully qualified Optometrist. It's certainly challenging - but it's a good challenge. I'm seeing more patients now and have the confidence to just get on and do it.
I would recommend Vision Express to anyone considering a Pre-reg placement or a resident position. The staff in store are friendly and supportive so it creates a nice atmosphere to work in - there is a real sense of teamwork. As for the future, there is always something to learn. Don't just take my word for it find out for yourself - just go for it.
